6 CLASS FA 4 PROJECT WORK
Name of the Project:
Testing Different Materials to Identify Conductors and Insulators
Aim:
To test different materials using a conduction tester and classify them as conductors or insulators.
Objectives:
• To understand the concept of electric conductors and insulators.
• To construct and use a simple conduction tester.
• To observe the flow of electric current through different materials.
• To classify materials based on their ability to conduct electricity.
Tools:
• Electric cell
• Small electric bulb
• Connecting wires
• Simple switch (or safety pin switch)
• Test materials: key, coin, iron nail, aluminium foil, rubber, plastic scale, wooden stick, glass piece, eraser
Procedure:
1. A simple conduction tester was assembled using an electric cell, bulb, switch, and connecting wires.
2. The switch was kept open initially and the connections were checked.
3. The free ends of the tester wires were touched to the two ends of the test material.
4. The switch was closed and the bulb was observed carefully.
5. The procedure was repeated for each test material.
6. Observations were noted based on whether the bulb glowed or not.

Conclusion:
Materials that allowed electric current to pass through them were identified as conductors, while materials that did not allow current to pass were identified as insulators. Metals were found to be good conductors, whereas rubber, plastic, wood, and glass acted as insulators.
