6 CLASS FA4 LAB ACTIVITY

NAME OF THE EXPERIMENT

Making a Simple Torch

Aim:

To make a simple torch using an electric cell, a bulb, and a connecting wire.

Materials Required:

One electric cell

One torch bulb

One piece of connecting wire

Rubber band / adhesive tape

Procedure:

A piece of connecting wire was taken and its insulation was removed at both ends.

One end of the wire was wrapped around the metal case (base) of the torch bulb.

The other end of the wire was connected to the negative terminal of the electric cell using a rubber band.

The metal tip at the base of the bulb was then brought in contact with the positive terminal of the electric cell.

The bulb was moved away from the terminal and again brought into contact to observe the switching action.

Observation:

The bulb glowed when the metal tip of the bulb touched the positive terminal of the electric cell.

The bulb did not glow when the contact was broken.

Results and Discussion:

When the bulb was properly connected to both terminals of the electric cell, a closed electric circuit was formed.

Inference:

The bulb glows only when a complete electric circuit is formed. An electric cell supplies energy, and a bulb converts electrical energy into light energy.

Precautions:

The terminals of the electric cell were not connected directly without a bulb.

Loose connections were avoided.
