• Use iodised salt regularly in food.
• Take a balanced diet and consult a doctor if symptoms appear.

9. Give two suggestions to control bio magnification.
• Reduce the use of chemical pesticides and insecticides.
• Promote eco-friendly and biodegradable substances.

10. What is Synapse ? What happens at synapse ?
Synapse is the junction between two neurons.

SECTION – IV               2 × 8 = 16 M

16.a) Write an experiment to show that chlorophyll is necessary for photosynthesis.

Aim

To show that chlorophyll is necessary for photosynthesis.

Materials Required

Variegated plant, water, alcohol, beaker, test tube, burner, iodine solution.

Procedure

I. Keep plant in dark (3 days)
II. Place in sunlight 4 hours
III. Pluck variegated leaf – mark green areas

IV. Boil leaf in water
V. keep in hot alcohol
VI. Add iodine solution

To Study Chlorophyll is Necessary for Photosynthesis Video Lecture | Science Class 7 (Old NCERT)

Observation

green parts of the leaf turn blue-black,

yellow parts do not change colour

.

Result

Starch is formed only in the green parts of the leaf. Hence, chlorophyll is necessary for photosynthesis.

(Or)

b) Write the procedure followed by you observe budding in Yeast. (Explain an activity to observe asexual reproduction in Yeast.)

Aim

To observe yeast cells and their budding under a microscope.

Materials

Sugar, water, yeast, test tube, cotton plug, glass slide, coverslip, microscope.

Procedure

1.    Dissolve sugar solution

2.    Pour into test tube

3.    Add yeast pinch

4.    Keep warm place

5.    Observe under microscope

Name the process of asexual reproduction shown by Yeast. What type of living being is Yeast? What is its commercial importance?

Observation

Oval-shaped yeast cells are seen. Some cells show small outgrowths called buds.

Result

Yeast reproduces by budding.

.

17.a) Analyse the mechanism of reflex actions.
(How do the reflex responses take place in animals ? Explain with an example.)

·         Reflex action is a quick, automatic response without thinking.

·         The stimulus is detected by receptors.

·         The signal travels through sensory nerves to the spinal cord.

·         A reflex arc is formed in the spinal cord.

·         The spinal cord sends signals through motor nerves.

·         Motor nerves act on muscles immediately.

·         Muscles contract quickly and produce movement.

·         Example: Pulling the hand back when touching a hot object.

·         Reflexes protect the body from danger quickly.

b) Male is responsible for sex determination of the baby - do you agree? If so write your answer with flow chart

Yes, I agree Father is responsible for sex determination of the baby

i. Females have XX chromosomes, males have XY chromosomes.

ii. Female gametes carry X chromosomes.

iii. Male gametes carry either X or Y chromosomes.

iv. If a ‘ X’ Sperm fertilizes the egg, the child will be Girl (XX).

v. If a  Y ‘Sperm fertilizes the egg, the child will be Boy (XY).

Hence sex of the child is determined by the father.

The sex of a newborn child is a matter of chance and none of the pare
